throughout and also dense, although less dense in the belly portions. Color within the wool (brown or black spots or red fibers) is discouraged by the breed association. There is a bit of luster, possibly courtesy of some Leicester ancestry, and the wool has a noticeable and even crimp in the fibers, if not in the lock structure; this can make the locks easy to tease open.

See also the notes for California Red (page 233). The fleeces handle similarly, although in general American Tunis sheep grow wool in larger quantities, and California Reds are likely to have coarser red hairs mixed into their fleeces.
